New Sainfoin Trait Ontology Posted!

Hi all! We have recently posted the first version of the Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) Crop Ontology. Development of this ontology has been a joint effort between researchers at The Land Insititute (Salina, KS) and the Adana Alparslan Turkes Science and Technology University (Adana, Turkey).

Sainfoin is a perennial legume that has traditionally been used as forage but has recently garnered interest as a potential perennial pulse crop. Breeding efforts as a dual purpose crop are underway and this ontology represents the first effort to standardize trait nomenclature between programs. It currently defines agronomic, morphological, physiological, and quality traits along with their associated methods and scales relevant for forage and seed production breeding programs. We welcome further collaboration from the larger Sainfoin research community to continue ontology development.
